ABB RDCO-04C
Overview
The ABB RDCO-04C is a compact, electromechanical differential pressure switch designed primarily for monitoring filter status in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems. Function and Adjustment
Operation: The switch has an internal diaphragm that moves based on the difference in pressure between the two connection ports (High pressure vs. Low pressure). This mechanical movement actuates the micro-switch.
Setting/Calibration: The setpoint (the pressure at which the switch activates) is easily adjusted using a rotating dial on the front of the unit. The dial has a scale from 1 to 10, which corresponds to the 20-400 Pa range. A setting of "1" is ~20 Pa, and "10" is ~400 Pa.
Electrical Connections: The device has screw terminals for:
- Common (C)
- Normally Open (NO)
- Normally Closed (NC)
Status Indication: A red visual indicator shows the switching status.
Typical Applications
The primary application for the RDCO-04C is:
Filter Monitoring: Detecting when air filters in HVAC systems become clogged and need replacement. The "High Pressure" port is connected to the dirty side of the filter, and the "Low Pressure" port to the clean side. When the ΔP exceeds the setpoint, the switch can trigger an alarm or indicator light.
Fan Monitoring: Checking the operational status of fans by measuring the pressure difference they create.
Airflow proving: Ensuring adequate airflow in a duct.
